2020 Mazda CX-30 Engine Options and Performance Features Overview
Mazda has given its audience a first look at an all-new model. First thought to be a Mazda CX-4 crossover, it has instead taken on the title of the 2020 Mazda CX-30. Fitting right in between the 2019 Mazda CX-3 and the 2019 Mazda CX-5, the 2020 Mazda CX-30 works as a compromise for drivers finding the Mazda CX-3 too small or the Mazda CX-5 too big for their liking.
The 2020 Mazda CX-30 just debuted at the 2019 Geneva International Motor Show. With it, as usual, comes a press release from Mazda to clarify all the details. While Mazda has not yet released the trim levels and power output readings of this new SUV on its first outing, we do have additional information on the performance features of the 2020 Mazda CX-30. Those, which we’ll look over today, include its engine options, transmission options, and drivetrain options.
2020 Mazda CX-30 Engine Options
The baseline engine of the 2020 Mazda CX-30 will be a SKYACTIV®-G 2L inline 4 engine, likely the same that is found with the current 2020 Mazda CX-3. In the 2019 Mazda CX-3, that engine produces 148 horsepower and 146 lb-ft of torque.
Additional engine options include a SKYACTIV®-D 1.8L diesel engine and the next-generation SKYACTIV®-X engine, most recently teased with the upcoming 2019 Mazda3.
2020 Mazda CX-30 Transmission Options
The 2020 Mazda CX-30 will have a 6-speed automatic transmission option and a 6-speed manual transmission option.
However, without knowing details about the trim levels of the 2020 Mazda CX-30, we can’t yet know which transmission will be standard on the 2020 Mazda CX-30. The 2019 Mazda CX-3, the 2019 Mazda CX-5, and the 2019 Mazda CX-9 may all have standard automatic transmissions, yet the 2020 Mazda CX-30 is the only one among them to offer a manual transmission option, assuming that addition carries over to American releases. Therefore, we shouldn’t speculate when everything is still in flux.
2020 Mazda CX-30 Drivetrain Options
The standard drivetrain for most 2020 Mazda CX-30 trim levels will be front-wheel drive. However, as expected, i-ACTIV AWD® will be made available. As is the case with the upcoming 2019 Mazda3, the 2020 Mazda CX-30 will also improve i-ACTIV AWD® use with the all-new G-Vectoring Control Plus.
