Tips on How to Get Out of the Snow

Sometimes, accidents happen. If you get stuck in a ditch or other space, there are a few things you can do to get free before calling a tow service. Here are some tips:

  1. Assess how the vehicle is stuck: Is your vehicle lodged on top of something, or is it at an awkward angle? Assessing how stuck the vehicle is allows you to prepare on how to get out.
  2. Shovel out Your Exhaust and Tires: To prevent any additional damage to the vehicle, be sure to keep the exhaust clear. Once finished, it’s best to free up your tires – especially ones that are slipping – to prepare to back out or move forward.
  3. Add traction to your tires: Whether it’s sand, salt, or shoveling to the hard ground, your tires will need more traction than smooth and packed snow.
  4. Drive Gently: Once you think you have the vehicle free, apply the gas pedal gently. Abrupt tire movement can make the vehicle lose any friction you may have gained by doing the above-mentioned tips.
